Amber’s student story

Photographic and Media Make-Up student Amber Smith is spending 8 weeks at the London School of Make-up, developing the skills she’ll need for a career in make-up. We thought that we’d get to know her a little bit better…

Hi Amber.

What’s your first make-up memory?
I remember my mum took me to Mac to have a makeover. It was my birthday and she bought me all the products and brushes that they used on me!

What’s your strongest make-up skill?
I would say my strongest point is the base.

…and which are you looking to improve?
I want to improve balance I can get on lips.

Who influences your make-up and inspires you to be a better artist?
I am inspired by Desi Perkins, Miranda Kerr, Len Atkin and Pat McGrath

What’s your time with us been like?
My experience has been amazing and made me realise how much I really do love hair and makeup. I’m so excited for what comes next.

Thank you Amber.

Danielle’s student story

Photographic and Media Make-Up student Danielle Deadman is spending 8 weeks at the London School of Make-up, developing the skills she’ll need for a career in make-up. We thought that we’d get to know her a little bit better…
Thanks for talking to us.

What’s your first make-up memory?
Back in primary school I was always sifting through my mum’s makeup and taking my favourite lipsticks. I was told off for it all the time. One day I refused to take it off so my teacher physically came and wiped it off my face!

What’s your strongest make-up skill?
Contouring and recreating eyebrows.

…and which are you looking to improve?
I am looking to get lips perfect, and crease cut eyes too.

Who influences your make-up and inspires you to be a better artist?
Pat McGrath, Mario, Val Garland, Charlotte Tilbury, and so many others that I follow on Instagram.

What’s your time with us been like?
The teachers have been great! I’ve learnt some really good techniques from them and I’ve had a great team of people in my class. I’d recommend the course to anyone who wants to be a make-up artist.

Thank you Danielle.

Diana’s student story

Photographic and Media Make-Up student Diana Bruton is spending 8 weeks at the London School of Make-up, developing the skills she’ll need for a career in make-up. We thought that we’d get to know her a little bit better…

Hi Diana.

Tell us about your first make-up memory?
My first memory of makeup was from watching Star Trek – I think I was about six years old. I was obsessed with finding out how they made the aliens. I made my parents take me to a convention where they had all the costumes and prosthetics and I sat in a room full of adults listening to one of the head artists do a seminar about it. The first ‘makeup’ I ever bought was face paint at around the same time.

What’s your strongest make-up skill?
I loved my dewy look for the colour photoshoot on the course.

…and which are you looking to improve?
I want to improve my rainbow eye/crease cut.

Who influences your make-up and inspires you to be a better artist?
I love Marilyn Monroe, she was just so sexy and beautiful even though she was so damaged. Lady Gaga is so creative and abstract. Van Gogh saw the world so differently and the beauty in the simplest things.

What’s your time with us been like?
It’s been amazing! I feel I’ve learnt so much and met so amazing people. I love having the stability of learning from Charlotte for two weeks, then a new artist every day gave a new excitement each day.

Thank you for chatting to us.

Nikita’s student story

Photographic and Media Make-Up student Nikita Menon is spending 8 weeks at the London School of Make-up, developing the skills she’ll need for a career in make-up. We thought that we’d get to know her a little bit better…

Hi Nikita.

What’s your first make-up memory?
I was obsessed with lipstick as a kid. I made a funny expression with my lips parted because I didn’t want it to smudge or wear out.

What’s your strongest make-up skill?
Contouring/shading and eye liner.

…and which are you looking to improve?
I need to improve on lips

Who influences your make-up and inspires you to be a better artist?
Val Garland inspires me with her extraordinary vision and talent. I also love Rihanna’s style, its different and interesting every time – bold and carefree.

What’s your time with us been like?
I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I’m going home with some amazing memories. I learnt way more than I thought I would and made some amazing friends. I can’t thank the school enough for this opportunity. Meeting such talented make-up artists and learning so much from the best has been an overwhelming experience.
Thank you Nikita.
